What is a LED high bay light?

A high bay light is a luminaire designed to illuminate spaces with high ceilings — typically 6 metres (about 20 feet) or taller. The term refers to the mounting position rather than a single fixture type, so it covers UFO round fixtures, traditional reflector-style fixtures, and high-power projectors. LED high bay lights have largely replaced traditional metal halide (MH) and high-pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures because they consume far less energy, last much longer, and reach full brightness instantly without warm-up.

What is the difference between high bay and low bay lights?

The distinction is mounting height. High bay fixtures are designed for ceilings roughly 6 metres and above, and usually include reflectors or lenses to direct light down and outward over the long distance to the floor. Low bay fixtures are intended for ceilings below about 6 metres, where a wider, softer spread is preferred and less optical concentration is needed. How do I choose the right wattage for my ceiling height?

Wattage selection depends on mounting height, the target lux level for your application, and the beam angle. As a general starting point: 4–6m ceilings suit 100–150W, 6–8m suit 150–200W, 8–12m suit 200–300W, and above 12m typically needs 300W or more. These are starting points only — we provide a free DIALux photometric study with every project quote to confirm the exact fixture count, spacing, and uniformity for your layout.

What beam angle should I select?

Beam angle controls how light spreads from the fixture. A wide beam (90°–120°) suits lower ceilings and open areas where even, broad coverage matters. A narrow beam (60° or less) concentrates output for high ceilings, aisles, or task areas where light must travel further to reach the floor. SJGK fixtures are available in multiple beam-angle options to match your installation.

How many high bay lights do I need?

Fixture count depends on the room dimensions, ceiling height, target lux level, and the lumen output and beam angle of the chosen fixture. There is no single formula, because each space and lighting standard differs. The most reliable approach is a DIALux simulation using the fixture's IES photometric file against your floor plan — we prepare this for you at no cost when you share your space dimensions and target lux.

Are these fixtures suitable for cold storage, high-temperature, or food-processing areas?

SJGK fixtures are rated IP65 for protection against dust and water jets, and operate across a -20°C to 45°C ambient range as standard. For specialised environments — freezers, high-temperature zones, or wash-down food-processing areas — please tell us the conditions so we can recommend the right series and any required modifications.

What is the difference between UFO and traditional high bay fixtures?

UFO high bays are compact, round, lightweight fixtures that install quickly with a hook — ideal for warehouses and workshops up to around 12m. Traditional reflector high bays use a large aluminium reflector to spread light softly and evenly, suiting general industrial spaces. For very high ceilings, stadiums, or large open areas, high-power projector-style fixtures (300W–1200W) provide the required output and throw.
